About EcoPath Hiking

Pioneering Sustainable Wilderness Experiences Since 2020

Our Story

EcoPath Hiking was born in 2020 from a simple observation: the trails we loved were showing increasing signs of degradation. Founders Dr. Rebecca Thomson, a conservation biologist, and Marcus Chen, an experienced wilderness guide, recognized that traditional hiking tourism was inadvertently harming the ecosystems it celebrated. They envisioned a different approach—one where every footstep contributed to preservation rather than deterioration.

Starting with just two carefully researched trails in the Daintree Rainforest, we implemented strict group size limits, rotating trail schedules, and comprehensive guide training in ecological principles. The results were immediate and measurable. Within six months, vegetation recovery was visible along previously eroded paths, and wildlife sightings increased as animals grew comfortable with our predictable, low-impact presence.

Word spread through the hiking community about tours that delivered exceptional experiences while actively protecting the environment. By 2022, we had expanded to fifteen curated routes across Queensland's most pristine wilderness areas. Each new trail undergoes months of ecological assessment before opening, ensuring we maintain our founding commitment to zero-impact tourism.

Today, EcoPath Hiking leads over 3,000 hikers annually through some of Australia's most spectacular landscapes. Our success has inspired similar operations worldwide, proving that environmental responsibility and outstanding tourism experiences are not just compatible—they're inseparable. Every tour continues to fund ongoing research, habitat restoration, and Indigenous community partnerships that strengthen the ecological and cultural fabric of the regions we're privileged to explore.

Our Mission & Values

🌿

Environmental Stewardship

We believe every hiking experience should leave ecosystems healthier than we found them. Through continuous monitoring, adaptive management, and active restoration projects, we ensure our operations contribute positively to biodiversity conservation and habitat protection.

🎓

Education & Awareness

Knowledge transforms casual hikers into conservation advocates. Our guides provide in-depth ecological education, sharing the latest research and traditional Indigenous wisdom to foster deep appreciation and understanding of the complex systems that sustain wilderness areas.

🤝

Community Partnership

Sustainable tourism succeeds only when local communities thrive. We prioritize Indigenous partnerships, employ local guides, source supplies regionally, and ensure tourism revenue supports the people who have stewarded these lands for millennia and continue to protect them today.
